About us

H2range develops and builds compact fuel cell systems for MCV and UAV. Our strength is the simplicity of our technology, which makes it cost-efficient, extremely compact and reliable.

MISSION

MCV and UAV are driven to emission-free success with our cost-effective and efficient fuel cells.

Mobility has always been a fundamental human need. In this century, the growth of transportation vehicles has peaked. New, more compact vehicle concepts are entering the markets. Electric motors are highly developed. The missing key component for the future of MCV and UAV is a qualified energy source. Therefore, cost-effectiveness, reliability and easy refueling are the strengths of H2range systems.

GOAL

Industrialization and reduction of total cost of ownership (TCO)

In our short company history, we have already reduced the costs of our technology by 90% through scaling. Our technology already works extremely reliably and adds value for commercial applications. Now, our most crucial step towards realizing our mission is the reduction of production costs by further scaling.

OUR HISTORY

The roots of H2range date back to 2014 when Björn Offermann (Co-Founder) led the development of a compact fuel cell for cargo bikes in an internal project at the German Aerospace Center (DLR). His pioneering work in integrating this technology into practical applications laid the foundation for H2range.

2018

The fuel cell technology of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Björn Offermann’s business plan received funding from the Helmholtz Enterprise program.

2019

Even before H2range GmbH was founded, our work gained recognition from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport: H2range was named the winner of the e4 TESTIVALS Start-up Award 2019.

2020

H2range GmbH was founded by Björn Offermann and Christian Christow with headquarters in the Avantis European Science and Business Park in Aachen. Initially as a spin-off from the German Aerospace Center, H2range GmbH is now fully independent.

2021

The advantages of the H2range stack were impressively demonstrated in a drone for the first time. Equipped with a 3.2 kW stack, the drone (MTOW 25kg) performed for 90 minutes in the air.

2022

The development of a complete plug-and-play H2range system for cargo bikes started.

2023

The first small series of cargo bikes with H2range fuel cells was delivered to the hydrogen City of Aberdeen.

2024

H2range GmbH introduced its own system control to the market. There is now a complete plug-and-play fuel cell system for cargo bikes allowing our customers to conveniently access the system parameters from their mobile phone.

H2range GmbH signed an agreement with the German OEM RYTLE for the supply of hydrogen fuel cells. The first RYTLE vehicle to use hydrogen power to be rolled out in 2025 for London-based Delivery Mates. The company has traditionally specialised in transporting parcels from depots to consumers on behalf of retailers and ecommerce platforms. The new project will use cargo bikes for fresh food delivery in a temperature-controlled way.

Welcome to H2range – we are proud to contribute to the future of micromobility and look forward to continuing this journey with you.
